There are many things I’ve forgotten this week.
I've forgotten to eat breakfast for several days. I forgot a good friend’s birthday. I even forgot to put coffee in the coffee machine one morning. And worse again, I’d half drank the coloured water “coffee” before I realised.
I also forgot, until yesterday, that it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday.
And with it came the sinking realisation that I, like so many, wouldn’t be seeing my mum on Mother’s Day. I wouldn’t be able to give her a big hug or treat her to lunch.
I’ll be honest – I did shed a little tear. And then I thought…f**k you coronavirus…you’re not taking this day from mothers.
Mother's Day is a celebration of women, of motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. It’s a day to say thank you to hardworking mums everywhere.
To me, it’s that and so much more.
Mother's Day is an annual reminder of how lucky I am to still have my mother in my life and to be a mother to 3 beautiful children. It’s watching the kids excitement as they “hide” their mother’s day cards and handmade gifts. And pretending to be asleep when they arrive in the bedroom with the burnt toast and luke warm coffee.
It’s taking a moment to realise I’m the centre of their world. I am their mother; their light, their comfort and their guide.
Celebrating Mother's Day
Like so many, I won’t be able to give my mother a big hug on mother’s day this year. But we want to CELEBRATE mothers and make sure they’re not forgotten in the craziness of coronavirus.
If like me, you totally forgot about mother’s day and haven’t anything organised for your mother, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of local, FABULOUS women in business who are fighting daily to keep their businesses alive in the current climate.
